Stylish and Warm Infinity Scarf

This next DIY project was my daughter’s idea.  Last year she knitted about a dozen infinity scarves to give to friends and family for Christmas.  On the days leading up to the holidays, I watched with fascination, as she turned massive heaps of knots and tangles into fashionable and snuggly infinity scarves.  My initial plan was to have her send in a guest post for this blog, but being a busy student in the last few weeks of her final year at University, that plan fell to the wayside.   I’ve opted to skip the detailed instructions and have attached an informative “how to” video courtesy of Simply Maggie.

You don’t have to be a knitter to be able to make this DIY, but some knowledge will come in handy.  Admittedly, I struggled with casting on the stitches and had to watch the video about a hundred times at various speeds, until I finally got it.  If I can do it, you can do it!Once you get the hang of it, you’ll find it quite easy and will be able to make your own scarf in less than an hour.   Ready?  Here it goes…

What you’ll need:

• 2 skeins of chunky wool – each measuring at least 100 yards
• Scissors
• 2 arms

Casting on, in my opinion, is the hardest part of this project, once you master this step, the rest of the process is very easy.

Once you have cast 10  stitches, the fun part begins.  Again, follow the video and within minutes, you’ll see progress.  Remember to pull on the working yarn quite often to keep the stitches taut as it’ll create a tighter weave in the scarf.

Continue knitting until your scarf measures 60″ and then cast off.

The final step is sewing the two ends together.  Fold the scarf in half and bring the two sides together (be sure that the good side is placed down).  Pull the ends so they match up perfectly.   Take the working yarn and weave it through the first, end stitch and pull.  Then repeat on the other side. Weave the yard down both sides until you come to the end.  Tie in a knot and weave the loose end back into the seam to hide it.
