Fireplace Update

My friend, Carol, was tired of her dated, light pink brick fireplace and decided it was time to put her DIY skills to use with a makeover just before Christmas.

After doing some research online, she eagerly began the project and has listed the “how to” steps below.   Thank you Carol!

Step 1:    Prime all brick and mantel, with Fresh Start Primer by Benjamin Moore.   Use a fluffy, small roller and angled brush to reach into the crevices.   Let paint dry overnight.

Step 2:    Paint primed brick with 2 more coats.   Carol used Cloud White by Benjamin Moore.  Allow 4 hours drying time in between coats.

Step 3:   Paint mantel with 2 coats with Benjamin Moore – Dragons’ Beard.

Step 4:  Complete the makeover with a black screen to create contrast, a dark mirror to reflect light and flowers to add interest.

In just a single weekend, Carol took her fireplace from blah to wow and it’s now the  focal point in the room.

Has this transformation inspired you to tackle your own fireplace makeover this winter?
